Clinic shuts down 3 wards as 4 specialists test positive to COVID-19

Three districts at the Ughelli Central Hospital in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State have been temporarily shut down after four specialists at the districts tested positive to COVID-19.


A medical laboratory scientist laboring at the clinic laboratory division and a nurse in one of the districts also tested positive to the ailment.


The areas are the Male ward, Medical Outpatient Ward, and the Surgical Outpatient Ward.


It was collected that the event has also influenced the acceptance of patients into the respective districts in the clinic as such victims are now being inferred to the Warri Central hospital for medication.


Though actions by Lead to speak with the Medical Director of the clinic, Dr. Bernard Ojekudo were unsuccessful as at press time, a doctor at the hospital who substantiated the event to leads, explained the doctors include three House Officers all of whom have been eliminated from the hospital’s clasping installation and taken to the Isolation Center in Warri for medication.


The authority who spoke on the situation of anonymity said: “Aside from these consultants, lab scientist,t, and nurse, other medics in the hospital who may have come in connection with them have also been instructed to go on self-isolation.


“For now, there are no victims in the respective areas because the specialists who are presumed to accompany such victims are in isolation after they were endangered to COVID-19 patients without wearing reasonable Personal Protective Equipment.


“Even nurses in some selected areas like the disaster ward amongst others have also been instructed to go on self-isolation. It is just some limited districts that are fully in operation in the clinic.”
